Honesty, Empathy, Resilience

  • PE

At Endeavour Academy, we believe that Physical Education is an essential part of a young person's development and that all students deserve opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and habits needed to lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives. Physical activity plays a vital role in supporting physical health, emotional wellbeing, resilience, self-esteem, and social development. For many of our students, PE provides valuable opportunities to experience success, build confidence, regulate emotions, develop positive relationships, and engage in healthy lifestyles.

We believe that every student, regardless of starting point or prior experience, deserves access to an ambitious, meaningful, and inclusive PE curriculum. Attendance at a specialist provision should never limit students' entitlement to physical education, sporting experiences, opportunities for personal development. Instead, our smaller settings and adaptive approaches allow us to personalise support, remove barriers to participation, and maintain high expectations for all learners.

Our PE curriculum develops students' understanding of movement, physical competence, health, fitness, teamwork, strategy, and performance. Students learn fundamental movement skills, sport-specific techniques, and the knowledge needed to participate safely and effectively in a range of physical activities. Through carefully sequenced learning, students develop increasing confidence, competence, and independence whilst building an understanding of how physical activity contributes to lifelong health and wellbeing.

We recognise that many of our students benefit from explicit instruction, visual modelling, repetition, structured routines, and scaffolded opportunities to practise skills. Learning is carefully broken down into manageable steps whilst maintaining challenge and ambition, allowing students to experience success and build resilience. Through regular participation, students develop perseverance, self-belief, and a willingness to challenge themselves both physically and mentally.

Personal development sits at the heart of our PE curriculum. We recognise that many of our learners may have experienced difficulties with confidence, social interaction, emotional regulation, or self-esteem, and therefore place significant emphasis on developing teamwork, communication, leadership, respect, and sportsmanship. Students learn how to work collaboratively, respond positively to challenge, manage competition appropriately, and celebrate both individual and collective success.

Our curriculum also develops students' understanding of physical and mental wellbeing. Through learning about fitness, exercise, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and the relationship between physical activity and mental health, students develop the knowledge needed to make informed choices about their own wellbeing. Students are encouraged to recognise the benefits of an active lifestyle and develop habits that support long-term health and happiness.

Across all pathways from KS2 to Post-16, PE at Endeavour prepares students for adulthood by developing transferable skills including resilience, communication, teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, and goal-setting. We aim to ensure students leave school with the confidence and motivation to participate in physical activity beyond education and to recognise the role that movement and exercise can play in supporting their wellbeing throughout life.

At Endeavour Academy, we understand that physical activity can be a powerful vehicle for inclusion, engagement, and personal growth. Our curriculum embraces sport, fitness, and movement as opportunities to remove barriers, develop confidence, strengthen relationships, and enable students to experience achievement in ways that may not always be possible within more traditional academic settings.

Ultimately, the PE curriculum at Endeavour aims to develop confident, resilient, and active individuals who understand the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. We want our students to leave us with not only the skills and knowledge needed to participate in physical activity, but also the confidence, resilience, and motivation to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
