Honesty, Empathy, Resilience
At Endeavour Academy, we believe that every child deserves a curriculum that restores, rebuilds, and realises their potential. Our curriculum is rooted in a commitment to social justice: many of our students arrive having experienced disruption, disadvantage, or disconnection from education. We therefore see curriculum not simply as a body of knowledge, but as a powerful vehicle for equity, enabling all students to access, participate in, and succeed within society.
Our curriculum is designed to be ambitious, inclusive, and transformational. It provides all students – regardless of starting point – with access to the knowledge, skills, and cultural capital they need to lead fulfilling, independent lives. We do not narrow the curriculum in response to need; instead, we carefully adapt how it is delivered so that every learner is able to succeed.
We recognise that our students have a diverse range of needs. As such, our curriculum is deliberately structured to prioritise safety, predictability, and connection as the foundations for learning. We understand that, before students can learn effectively, they must feel safe, regulated, and ready to engage.
Our curriculum is underpinned by three core principles:
Knowledge that Empowers

We are unapologetically knowledge-rich. We identify and prioritise the core knowledge that students must retain in the long-term, both knowing that and knowing how. This knowledge is carefully sequenced and revisited to support memory and mastery, ensuring that learning is durable rather than transient.
We focus on threshold concepts, which are the powerful ideas that unlock new ways of thinking within subjects, and we explicitly pre-empt and plan to address misconceptions. By doing so, we enable our students to move beyond surface-level engagement and develop genuine understanding.
Learning That is Accessible

We recognise that many of our learners have experienced barriers to learning. Our curriculum is therefore designed through the lens of cognitive science, reducing unnecessary cognitive load, and presenting the information in clear, structured, and meaningful ways.
Teaching is adaptive, not diluted. We maintain high expectations for all, while providing the scaffolding, modelling, and support needed for students to succeed. This includes:
Breaking learning into manageable steps
Explicit instruction and modelling
Frequent checks for understanding
Retrieval practice to strengthen memory
Opportunities to apply learning in different contexts
We prioritise literacy and communication across the curriculum, recognising that language is the gateway to learning and future success.
Development of the Whole Child

Our curriculum extends beyond academic success. We aim to develop confident, resilient and self-aware individuals who are prepared for life beyond school.
We explicitly teach:
Emotional regulation and self-management
Social interaction and relationship-building
Independence and life skills
Aspirations for further education, employment, and training
Our Learning Pathways ensure that students access a curriculum that is appropriately matched to their stage of development, while maintaining ambition to future progression.
Our Curriculum is a Journey
We see the curriculum as a carefully planned journey. From lower school to upper school, and then beyond, students are supported to progress through meaningful qualification pathways that open doors rather than close them.
We ensure that:
Students build secure foundations before moving to more complex learning
Knowledge and skills are systematically revisited and strengthened
Assessment is used to inform teaching, not simply measure it
Success is recognised in both academic and personal development
Preparing students for their future
Ultimately, our curriculum is designed to ensure that every student leaves Endeavour with:
The knowledge and qualifications needed for their next step
The confidence to engage with the wider world
The ability to manage themselves and their emotions
A sense of belonging and self-worth
We want our students not just to succeed in school, but to thrive in life.
