Honesty, Empathy, Resilience

At Endeavour Academy, we believe that Motor Vehicle Studies is a valuable and engaging vocational subject that enables students to develop practical skills, technical knowledge, confidence and independence whilst gaining an understanding of the automotive industry. Through hands-on learning and real-world workshop experiences, students learn how vehicles function, how they are maintained safely, and how practical mechanical skills can be applied in everyday life and future employment.
We believe that all students, regardless of their starting point, prior experiences or individual needs, deserve access to an ambitious and meaningful vocational curriculum. Attendance at a specialist provision should never limit a young person's opportunities to develop practical skills or explore future career pathways. Instead, our smaller class sizes, personalised support and strong relational practice allow students to experience success whilst developing resilience, independence and self-belief through practical learning.
Our KS4/5 Motor Vehicle Studies curriculum is designed to provide students with both theoretical understanding and practical experience of vehicle maintenance and repair. Students learn about workshop safety, the correct use of tools and equipment, vehicle systems and components, and the importance of routine vehicle maintenance. They develop an understanding of health and safety procedures, engine components, braking systems, ignition systems, tyres, wheels, fluids and vehicle inspections whilst learning how these contribute to the safe operation of a vehicle.
As students progress through the curriculum, they develop increasingly complex practical skills including carrying out vehicle checks, maintaining fluid levels, checking tyres and lights, removing and replacing components, and safely using specialist workshop tools and equipment. Through these experiences, students learn the importance of precision, responsibility, attention to detail and safe working practices. They also develop confidence in solving practical problems, following technical instructions and working systematically to complete tasks successfully.
Learning is practical, structured and highly supportive. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time, with visual supports, modelling, repetition and scaffolded practice used to ensure all students can access learning successfully. Students are encouraged to learn through doing, reflecting and applying their knowledge in realistic workshop contexts, enabling them to make meaningful connections between classroom learning, vocational skills and future employment opportunities.
Motor Vehicle Studies contributes significantly to our wider curriculum vision of developing the whole child. Alongside technical and vocational skills, students develop communication, teamwork, independence, resilience and problem-solving skills that prepare them for future education, employment and adult life. Through practical workshop experiences, students learn the importance of responsibility, professionalism and safe working practices whilst developing confidence in their own abilities and aspirations for the future.
Ultimately, our aim is that students leave Endeavour Academy with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to maintain vehicles safely, understand the principles that underpin vehicle operation and maintenance, and recognise the value of responsibility, precision and professionalism in both their personal and professional lives.
