STEM week!
We have been curious this week for our STEM week (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). This year's theme was 'Change and Adaptation' and so we have been looking at changes that can happen quickly (such as changing light during the day or changing into a woolly jumper when it's cold), as well as changes that happen over a longer period of time, such as evolution!
We have carried out many investigations - such as seeing which animals are suited to living on the school grounds, which adaptations are suited to which environments, and how light changes when it is reflected!
Class of the week: M4
In M4, despite the school year coming to a close, we have been very busy! We have been learning about WW1 and WW2 and will be taking a trip to the Holocaust museum next week to further understand the impact of WW2. As part of this, we have also been reading Goodnight Mister Tom, and have produced our own adverts to persuade parents to join the evacuee programme during WW2!
We have also been looking at the data handling cycle in maths and have been making lots of different types of graphs and charts. And in D&T we have been practising our sewing skills, keeping in mind the "Make do and Mend" campaign from WW2. Some of our students have even been able to apply this to their own projects!
M4 will soon be heading over to Sherbrook for year 9 - they have taken the transition days in their stride and seem ready to take that next step. They will be very missed here at Churchmoor.
Certificates for the week!!
Well done to Harry and Kyron in M4 for receiving their certificates for Empathy for showing understanding and preparing their desks for other people to use.
Big congratulations to Tom in M4 too, for showing amazing resilience even when having some very exciting news!
Congratulations to our top Dojo point scorers:
Well done to Josh at Churchmoor and Aaron at Sherbrook!! Keep up the good work 😁
"People contact us about all aspects of family life, including child development, issues with schools and parenting/relationship support. We also respond when life becomes complicated and provide support around family breakdown, aggression in the home, bullying, risky teenage behaviour and mental health concerns of both parents and their children. It is good to talk, and we can help you find solutions and recommend further support within our own wider services and/or from our many partner organisations."
