This policy statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to pupils at the school. This is for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997. The Academy is also registered with the Enterprise Advisor Network and has completed the self-assessment compass tool.

Endeavour Academy is committed to ensuring that all children and young people have opportunities to access a relevant career, employability and enterprise programme.

Endeavour Academy is Gatsby compliant and contributes to the eight benchmarks.

Employer Encounters

We understand the importance of and strongly encourage meaningful encounters between our students and employers with the aim of equipping the next generation of workers with the knowledge, understanding and skills to make a successful transition from education to the workplace.

We are particularly keen to hear from employers who can help link our subject-related curriculum in the classroom to the world of work/employment.  This could include visiting a class and running or supporting a lesson, for example.

Policy

Endeavour Academy will be supported by Nexus Multi-Academy Trust to provide a relevant and personalised Careers, Employability and Enterprise programme for students at the appropriate stage in their learning. This programme will ensure it meets the statutory requirements and guidance from DfE and embed the regional Local Enterprise Partnership (EMCCA) Careers, Employability and Enterprise Framework. This framework consists of 10 key goals which young people should have the opportunity of developing before they leave full-time education:

  • Invest in themselves, recognise their own strengths and values, and take responsibility for developing their work readiness skills and behaviours - Self-motivated.
  • Have the tools and skills required to present themselves to a future employer - Self-assured.
  • Have high aspirations for themselves - Aspirational.
  • Understand the opportunities available to them locally and beyond and make realistic choices - Informed.
  • Have experience of work that is rewarding and fulfilling - Experienced.
  • Achieve qualifications valued by employers - Achieving.
  • Understand that employers want people who will work hard and are accountable for their actions. - Accountable.
  • Understand that employers want young people who can listen and learn from their successes and their mistakes, and keep going - Resilient.
  • Work creatively to achieve their potential and that of the business - Entrepreneurial
  • Have effective communication and co-working skills - Co-operative.

Pupil entitlement:

All pupils in years 7-13 are entitled to:

  • Independent specialist careers advice and guidance commissioned through Ideas4Careers. This will include:
    • Group work sessions at Key Stage 3
    • Individual interviews for students with parents/carers who are also invited for Key Stage 4 and Post 16. This information supports the action planning process for annual reviews
    • All year groups have opportunities to meet with and engage with employers from the local area through our links with the careers and enterprise company
    • Mock interview days in years 11, 12 and 13 Work Experience opportunities in Post 16 for all students for at least one day per week
  • Work experience opportunities for Post-16 students throughout the academic year
  • A comprehensive PHSE/RSE curriculum which focusses on careers, advice and guidance for all students during term two. There is also a scholarship pathway for all students to achieve pledges which include career themes and skills for the world of work.
  • At Key Stage 4 and Post 16, the curriculum includes vocational themes and qualifications that are selected to meet the skills and interests of our students.

The Academy monitors and logs all work-related and employer engagement activities to ensure a broad range of opportunities exist for all students.

The Endeavour careers, employability and enterprise offer to young people include:

  • Economic well-being financial capability programmes
  • Progression pathways to college, sixth form, and traineeships/transition skills
  • Employability and Job Search Programme (career planning, applying for jobs, interview techniques, developing a toolkit of employability skills)
  • Volunteering e.g. Macmillan coffee morning
  • Career planning – About me, what I like? What am I good at? What do my friends think I’m good at?
  • AIMS units, gardening, personal skills, finance, travel training (TITAN), SAMS workplace
  • Independent living skills
  • Support and guidance to help them make appropriate choices for their future to help decide what to do when they leave their course, including further learning, training or employment
  • Access to up-to-date Local Labour Market Information.

Introduction

Pupil entitlement

All pupils in years 7-13 are entitled to:

  • Find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
  • Hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
  • Understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.

Opportunities for access

The school offers a comprehensive Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance programme and an overview of this programme is available on request.

Please speak to our Careers Advisor to identify the most suitable opportunity for you.

The school will make a suitable space available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. The school will also make available ICT and other specialist equipment to support provider presentations. This will all be discussed and agreed in advance of the visit with the Careers Advisor or a member of their team.

Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature with the Careers Advisor so that they can be displayed in the Careers Section of the school library.
