Happy New Year!

We have kicked off the New Year by setting out our intentions for this year! Pupils have made their own New Year's resolutions, with lots of ambitious children wanting to improve in their favourite sport, save money, and do more of the things they enjoy with their friends and family. We look forward to seeing each of our students achieving their resolution.

We have also introduced our new school code, centring around every child feeling safe, being respected, and supported to learn.

Class of the week: Birch

Birch class were enthusiastic to return to school after the Christmas break. They were very pleased to be back in class and seeing their friends and teachers. It is going to be an exciting term with lots of different things to learn. Here are some of the things they are looking forward to:

They started a new book in English for the term, Street Child by Berlie Doherty. Street Child is based on the experiences of a real-life Victorian street child called Jim Jarvis and how he met Dr Barnardo. Meeting Jim, inspired Dr Barnardo to set up his famous children’s charity, Barnardos. Birch class are looking forward to learning more about life for Victorian children.

In science they have started to learning about light theory. In the first week, they carried out investigations into how light travels. The children discovered that light travels in straight lines. They really enjoy carrying out investigations so are looking forward to lots of hands on science this term.

In computing Birch are learning about the internet. They have been sharing their knowledge about how to keep ourselves safe when online, and understanding the differences between the internet, World Wide Web and web browser. They still found a little time to play hide and seek on Dojo Islands too!

Congratulations to our top Dojo Point scorers

A big well done to Pixie from Churchmoor, and Ava from Sherbrook. What an amazing start to the year!
